The qpod or qpod 2e consists of a molded body with a temperature-controlled cuvette holder in the center. On each of the four sides of the body there is a threaded optics mounting ring. Several optical systems are available to screw into these threaded rings. These include collimating lenses, imaging lenses and spherical mirrors. A holder is present in the qpod for a 1-inch diameter filter and a smaller holder is available for 0.5-inch filters that may be mounted firmly and directly on the ends of the lens systems. A polarizer accessory also snaps on to the end of a lens system.
There are two common lens configurations for the qpod or qpod 2e. To measure absorbance, a collimating lens is placed on opposite sides of the cuvette. To measure fluorescence, an imaging lens is placed on two adjacent sides and mirrors are placed opposite each for signal enhancement.
