TC 425™

The TC 425 is the controller for a TURRET 400. It provides up and down settings for a target temperature, a button to turn the temperature control on or off and a knob to set the stirring speed (the same speed for each cuvette). In addition, the TC 425 controller has four buttons on its face for choosing which cuvette is placed in the light path. Pressing a button moves the cuvette into position; holding the button down for 3 seconds first homes the turret and then moves it to the selected position.

Temperatures may be controlled from -55 °C to + 105 °C, although special provision must be made to work below about -10 °C (see Temperature Range). Since it is not possible to put windows in front of each of the cuvette faces, The TURRET 400 will likely not operate below about -25 °C. While the temperature of the cuvette holder changes rapidly, the actual temperature in the sample lags behind the temperature of the sample holder. To measure the actual sample temperature, a thermistor probe may be plugged into the back of the controller and inserted into one of the cuvettes. The TC 125 accepts standard Series 400 or 500 thermistor probes available from a number of manufacturers. We prefer the model 423 or model 555 from Yellow Springs Instrument Company. The 423 is 1/8-inch diameter and can be used in a 10 mm square cuvette, whereas the 555 is only 0.030 inches in diameter and may be used in microcuvette or in short path length cuvettes.

The TC 425 has a USB connector on its back panel and may accept instructions from a computer. Please see the description of the Serial Control Option, SER 2.3, for more information about remote control.
