The qpod and qpod 2e are compact sample compartments containing a temperature-controlled cuvette holder surrounded by optical components of the user’s choice. Optics typically have SMA fiber optic connectors for various light sources and detectors. The qpod is run by a TC 125 Temperature Controller, whereas the newer qpod 2e has a built-in controller and is run by an external computer. The qpod 2e is frequently used in teaching laboratory situations, because it provides a low cost means of demonstrating temperature phenomena in spectroscopy at multiple stations. It is also frequently used as the temperature-controlled core of prototype and production analytical instruments.
